Wisconsin.
Five ladies represented the Gee's Bend Collective, a place where old and new generations of quilters come together to continue their tradition and sell their quilts. They spoke of their talents and spiritual influences, but surprisingly little about their history. It was apparent that there were still hard feelings about the exploitation of their quilts that have been seen in museums and books. These ladies boasted of current styles and completed quilts. It was a pleasure to listen, ask questions and mingle with them after the event.
After the event, we embarked upon our retreat experience. Projects were started and finished, machines masterfully fixed by Bill from Threads of Time, conversations abounded and there were snacks a plenty. You will be happy to know that second breakfast is now a tandem event between Camille's vintage waffle iron and Pat's family waffle recipe. We have also invented Turkey Chili Shots (maybe someone will share the details for our recipe collection here on the website?) We are a creative bunch!
The next retreat is scheduled for the weekend of June 20th. You may want to stay for 3 or 4 days; Mae's Garden will be open and we may do some grilling.
Make your reservations as soon as possible to hold your spot.
