We finished the sashing for the Chicago Geese quilt at our work gathering yesterday. Everyone's blocks really came together to make an interesting quilt. Good job everyone!

Peddler's Way Quilt Co. in Washington IL is seeking donation of quilts, pillowcases and new bed pillows for distribution to the victims of the recent tornados in Washington IL. They will be working with local churches and relief organizations to distribute the donations in the community. Please label your quilt so that the recipient will know who has made the generous gift and be able to thank you. Ship donations to: Peddler's Way Quilt Co. 127 Peddlers Way Washington IL 61571 One of our members shares this list of tips that she found in one of the books in her sewing library:
*Clever Fabric Hideaways* Many quiltmakers share this dilemma: Where do you hide fabric from anyone who doesn't understand why you need it all? Creative storage saves the day!
One of our ongoing programs is our "Blockmaster" effort. Each member of the guild creates as many blocks in the current theme as she wishes. The Chicago Geese blockmaster challenge is now complete (we're assembling it right now for donation to the Hyde Park Transitional Housing Project). The current project is a Red and White block challenge -- any 12-1/2 inch block pattern or design, using only red and white fabrics. Coming in early 2014 is a return to a specific block pattern, but made in quilter's choice of batiks with background muslin fabric provided by the guild (more details on this coming soon.) We currently have 20 red and white blocks stockpiled toward a goal of a minimum of 35 collected by early 2014. Be creative, try out a new block pattern or technique, or use an old favorite. Anything from the simplest block to advanced techniques work great with this simple color palette. At our monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 12 we will be creating the arrangement, sashing and borders for the Chicago Geese quilt from our Blockmasters program. We'd also like to work on the assembly during the meeting if time allows. There will be at least one portable machine at the meeting, but if others bring their machines we can set up an assembly line for putting the blocks together. Also, bring thread nippers, seam ripper (ugh, but you know it might be needed), and grey thread. If you do not want to sew blocks together, we'll also need help in trimming threads, pressing seams, and removing paper foundations. Extra irons and ironing pads, as well as extension cords will be appreciated.
Work on the project will follow the business meeting. |
