We learned that the Quilter's Trunk is a drop off site for A New Direction (a non-profit agency committed to helping women and children who suffer domestic violence). Quilters may donate quilts of any size, or contact the store to find out if there are specific immediate needs. Your quilt can be a source of comfort to a family in very difficult circumstances.
Over a dozen members of LQG visited the Quilter's Trunk for our November meeting. Much shopping was done and members ooh-ed and aah-ed over the selection of fabrics. Thanks to the crew at the store (including our own Nik-ki) for their hospitality in opening the store for the evening to the group.

Several members of the Lakeside Quilting Guild are taking part in a class in fabric dyeing and painting at the Hyde Park Arts Center. We have been learning how to use resists to define areas of the fabric to be dyed (and not dyed), the properties of cotton vs silk for using resist techniques, and which of our ideas are most suited to executing using these techniques. We've been busily experimenting, and if some of our creations are more beautiful than others, that's the nature of experimentation, isn't it?
