All the members of the Lakeside Quilting Guild would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our friends and family who contributed to our recent fundraising effort. We held a drawing for the prize of a vintage quilt at our December meeting. A video recording of the event is available here via YouTube.

We are making great progress on our blockmaster red and white fabric challenge -- to date 22 blocks in red and white fabrics have been completed by our guild members. We'll be starting a new challenge in early 2014, so why not finish off 2013 with a flourish and whip up a couple of blocks of red and white fabrics? You might be able to use that candy stripe fabric that has been lingering in your stash....Two of our guild members were in Danville this past week and shared the news that some of the Gee's Bend quilters will be at Threads and Beds/Threads of Time quilt center in Danville, IL on March 24, 2014. Threads and Beds retreat center is already fully booked for the weekend, including Mon, March 24, but anyone interested in meeting the Gee's Bend quilters should contact the retreat center for details. It may be possible to find overnight accommodations nearby. The telephone number for the shop and center is (866) 431-9202. You can see work by the Gee's Bend quilters at this website from Auburn University featuring a catalog of work: http://www.auburn.edu/academic/other/geesbend/explore/catalog/slideshow/ Date: Tuesday December 10th
Time: 6:30 PM Location: Contact [email protected] for details and directions if needed If you have not previously signed up to bring a dish to share, please bring a savory appetizer -- we have plenty of sweets! Don't forget your decorated brown paper bag with your four (4) fat quarters of fabric inside for our Christmas gift exchange. It should be a lunch sized plain brown paper bag, decorated however you choose. Include a notion or two as a little something extra. Be creative -- you can provide four similarly themed fabrics, a novelty fabric and three blenders, different values in the same color, whatever you like. We'll also be doing the drawing for the raffle vintage quilt at this meeting, so if you have additional donations of checks or cash, don't forget to contact our treasurer or email [email protected] to let us know so that we can enter all the eligible donors into the drawing! Peddler's Way Quilt Co. in Washington IL is seeking donation of quilts, pillowcases and new bed pillows for distribution to the victims of the recent tornados in Washington IL. They will be working with local churches and relief organizations to distribute the donations in the community. Please label your quilt so that the recipient will know who has made the generous gift and be able to thank you. Ship donations to: Peddler's Way Quilt Co. 127 Peddlers Way Washington IL 61571 At our monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 12 we will be creating the arrangement, sashing and borders for the Chicago Geese quilt from our Blockmasters program. We'd also like to work on the assembly during the meeting if time allows. There will be at least one portable machine at the meeting, but if others bring their machines we can set up an assembly line for putting the blocks together. Also, bring thread nippers, seam ripper (ugh, but you know it might be needed), and grey thread. If you do not want to sew blocks together, we'll also need help in trimming threads, pressing seams, and removing paper foundations. Extra irons and ironing pads, as well as extension cords will be appreciated.
Work on the project will follow the business meeting. Members (and any guests) are encouraged to bring fabrics from their stash for possible use in sashing and borders for our Chicago Geese blocks. We are considering blue, green, turquoise, teal - anything in the blue/green family for these projects, so please dig into those collections to see what you might have that could be donated to the cause! We'll be laying out blocks and hopefully working on the sashing on Tue, Oct 22 at 7 pm in the Cellar room at Treasure Island (55th and Lake Park)
You will also have an opportunity to go shopping for new fabric on Oct 22. Marilyn will be bringing a collection of donated fabrics for us to "buy" -- prices will be less than $1 and all proceeds will benefit the Lakeside Quilting Guild. So bring your pocket change and go home with some new inspiration. Guild members are invited to the first guild retreat of 2014. The retreat is scheduled for MLK weekend, Jan. 17-20, 2014 at Threads and Beds quilting retreat center in Danville, IL. To make your reservation, call the center directly -- you will need to provide them a credit card number to hold your spot and be sure to tell them you are a member of Lakeside Quilting Guild. That way we'll be grouped together in rooms and in our workspace. Call 217-431-9202 (866-431-9202 toll free) to make your reservation today. While we have notified T&B that we are coming, each member is responsible for their own reservation -- your credit card will not be charged until the time of the retreat. You may book for as many or as few days as fit your schedule; car pooling and other arrangements will be made closer to the date of the retreat. If this is your first time "retreating" with us, you are eligible for a stay-one-night-get-one-night-free coupon -- check with Paula or one of the other LQG management team.
